Technology Skills

1.  Basic operations and concepts

A. Students will demonstrate a sound understanding of the nature and operations of technology systems.

1. Communicate about technology using developmentally appropriate and accurate terminology.

       a.  Computer, monitor, keyboard, mouse, printer, click & drag

B. Students will be proficient in the use of technology.

1.  Use input devices and output devices to appropriately operate technology. 

            a. Input – mouse, keyboard;  Output – printer, monitor

3. Utilize basic computer operational techniques.

a.  Open and quit a program properly

b.  Log in and log out properly, shut down properly

c.  Use the parts of a window, pull-down menus, scroll bars

d. Create, save, retrieve, and print a document

e.  Organize and navigate folders, use the parts of a window

f. Close box, zoom features, expanding the window identify cursors

g. Understands Finder or Windows Explorer hierarchy within a document, desktop, or hard drive.

h. Demonstrates proficient file management skills associated with opening, closing, saving, and deleting files.

i . Manages multiple active applications.

 

4. Demonstrate keyboarding skills.

d. Apply their keyboarding skills to classwork to increase their WPM  and accuracy. (some remedial program for 6-8 students)

 

6. Recognize the various icons and symbols.

a.  Cursors, selection tool, I-beam, insertion point,  hourglass/watch

 

3. Technology productivity tools

A. Students will use technology tools to enhance learning, increase productivity, and promote creativity.

1.  Use a variety of media and technology resources for directed and independent learning activities.  

        a. internet, CDs

 

4.  Manipulate graphics.

            a.  Insert using graphic tools, resize.

 

B. Students will use productivity tools to collaborate in constructing technology enhanced models, preparing publications and producing other creative works

2.  Create developmentally appropriate multimedia products. Uses productivity tools for designing and creating multimedia presentations.

4.  Use technology tools for individual and collaborative writing, communication, and publishing activities to facilitate learning throughout the curriculum.

4. Technology communication tools

A. Students will use telecommunications to collaborate, publish, and interact with peers, experts, and other audiences.

 

B. Students will use a variety of media and formats to communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences.

A. Students will use technology to locate, evaluate, and collect information from a variety of sources.

            a.  Using keywords and using CDs.

B. Students will use technology tools to process data and report results.

 

C. Students will evaluate and select new information resources and technological innovations based on the appropriateness to specific tasks.

 

1.  Recognize that technology can be a source of information.

2.  Use technology resources for problem solving, self-directed learning, and extended activities.

            a.  Calculators, videos, educational software, the Internet, and CDs, science and math peripherals

               

3.  Use Internet search engines to find information about topics relevant to their schoolwork.

4. Accesses the World Wide Web independently using web browsers, search engines and favorites/bookmarks.

a.  Successfully locate information in electronic resources by using search engines, and/or other search tools.

b.  Evaluate the accuracy, relevance, appropriateness, and bias of electronic information sources.

c.  Compile and cite bibliographic information for each resource.
