Mr. Gamage’s 8th grade science classes used an architectural program, SketchUp, to create detailed scale models of their homes. They then used Google Earth to import the actual property their house sits on and positioned the house correctly on the lot. Finally they uploaded their constructions to Google Earth 3D Warehouse so that others could see them and use them. The pictures displayed below are only snapshots from a single angle of the actual models, and cannot be rotated or manipulated. The students’ original models are true architectural models that could not be displayed here without special software.
The Maine State Learning Results targeted were:
   Science and Technology; Communications:
Make and use scale drawings, maps, and three-dimensional models to represent real objects, find locations, and describe relationships.
Access information at remote sites using telecommunications
Mathematics; Geometry
Use the appropriate geometric tools and measurements to draw and construct two and three dimensional figures.
The National Educational Technology Standards for Students targeted were:
Students demonstrate a sound understanding of the nature and operation of technology systems.
Students use productivity tools to collaborate in constructing technology-enhanced models
Students use telecommunications to collaborate, publish, and interact with peers, experts, and other audiences. Home Sweet Home
