Our Language Arts will include Grammar, Spelling, and Writing. There will be one grade for all these areas on the report card.

Year round expectations:

- Proofreading their own writing using the minimum standards
- Reflections on what they have learned and goal setting to improve their writing
- Completing writing drafts to final quality piece
- Preparing autobiography book for presentation

First Quarter:

- Autobiography Unit introduced and started and baby contest
- Poetry introduced
- NWEA testing (fall)
- Grammar/proofreading lessons
- Timed writing prompt and grading according to MEA standards

Second Quarter:

- Autobiography continued
- Poetry continued
- Grammar/proofreading lessons continued
- Invent interdisciplinary unit

Third Quarter:

- Autobiography continued
- Poetry continued
- Research paper (writing piece)
- Grammar/proofreading lessons continued

Fourth Quarter:

- Autobiography unit completion with organizing and pictures
- Presentation of autobiography book at open house
- NWEA testing (spring)
- Bridges interdisciplinary unit

Grading Criteria:

Homework                  x 1        (worksheets and class work)

Social Behavior in the classroom is to respect others and the teacher in the class and to give everyone the opportunity to learn. No child has the right to interfere with other people's learning. Each child is responsible to set goals of what he/she needs to work on and then work on accomplishing the goal and move on.
