Beginning Drawing and Watercolor Courses

Carpentry: Woodworking II

Instructor Dennis Cunningham, master carpenter of 20+ years, will demonstrate and work with students using small power and hand tools. Participants will work on a project of his or her choice. Bring your ideas for making a special keep-sake box or maybe that replica piece of furniture you have always wanted. Couples will have a great time in this class, but don’t let that discourage you from coming alone! You will have a great experience and learn many vital woodworking skills to keep you entertained in your garage for months! Some experience is recommended, but not required. No class April 16th.

Holiday Wall Hanging

Instructor: Datvik Deirkrikorian. Impress your family and friends with your elegant, homemade evergreen tree wall hanging. You will use several seasonal and festive embellishments: pine cones, rose hips, sphagnum moss, and more. You can hang your finished product on your wall, or give it away as a unique gift! Materials fee payable to instructor: $20

Jewelry Making with Precious Metal Clay

Knitting: Knit 1 Purl 1

Instructor: Cathy VanDyke. This basic knitting class is designed for anyone who has ever thought about taking up knitting, but didn't know where to start. Join us to learn the basics of knitting and get in on the fun of creating beautiful knitted items. This introduction to knitting will cover yarn types, needles, casting on and off, basic stitches and following a pattern. We'll start with scarves. Great timing for holiday gifts! Bring a ball of worsted weight yarn of your choice and size 10 needles. Please, no "fun" or furry yarns. Materials fee payable to instructor: $5.

Knitting: Knit 2 Purl 2

Got the basics of knit and purl? Join in to learn mittens, turned-heel socks, and working with more complex patterns. This class will have you brainstorming ideas for baby gifts, Mother’s Day gifts and maybe even personalized stockings to hang by the fire! You will be amazed at how quickly you can acquire the skills you need to make beautiful knitted items for the ones you love. Materials fee payable to instructor: $5.

Knitting: Knit 3 Purl 3

Instructor: Cathy VanDyke. This course is for all you addicted knitters out there just waiting for a new challenge…and a lot of fun to go along with it! This is your chance to hang out with others who are constantly thinking about what to knit next. Even if you are a most experienced knitter, this will be a great opportunity to meet others and endlessly discuss yarn types, and other great materials. Materials fee for yarn and needles is $15 or bring your own!

Mixed Media Painting: Watercolor, Acrylic or Oil Paints

Instructor: Holly Smith. Come and enjoy an evening out creating! The class is designed for the beginner and the intermediate painter who wants to explore painting in their favorite medium. Demonstrations will be given covering the use and techniques of the various painting materials. Design, composition and color theory will be covered. Students are encouraged to work from still life materials or photographs. Each week students share their work and help critique others in the class. Students are responsible for their own materials: watercolors, brushes, arches watercolor paper 140lb cold press, etc. Acrylic or oil painters supply their own paints, brushes, and canvases etc. No class October 8th.

Quilting

Looking for a fun and easy activity? One where at the end of it all you will have created a beautiful piece of artwork appropriate for wall hanging or the perfect bed covering? Quilting! Deb Rogers of Quilt Divas makes it look easy!! Rug Hooking

Instructor: Patti Dinse Come learn the creative, easy art of traditional rug hooking in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. Both primitive and fine hooking techniques will be taught, including finishing and caring for your piece. Create an heirloom for your home! (Note: This is NOT latch hooking.) All materials – wool, frames, patterns, kits, hooks, etc. are available for purchase at the Rug Hooking Store in the Lincoln Street Center (where the classes will be held). We can help you choose your materials during your first class.

Sea Glass Jewelry

Instructor: Lynne Thompson. Have you collected beautiful pieces of sea glass, and want to do something creative with them? In this course, you will get a chance to learn some of the basics for making your treasure into wearable art! Sea glass and wire will be provided, but feel free to bring your own pieces of sea glass. The only necessary material is a pair of needlenose pliers. Lynne Thompson has been making wire-wrapped sea glass jewelry since 1998.

Watercolors

Instructor: Holly Smith A basic watercolor class for anyone interested in being creative. Techniques are covered as well as brush work and color theory. Come to relax and have an enjoyable time painting. Advanced students are also welcome! Materials needed for class are Arches watercolor paper 140lb cold press, watercolor paints, brushes, white masking tape, drawing board to paint on, paper towel, sketchbook and pencils.
